What we do as a Foundation

Supporting our Peculiar Parks system in any way we can

Improve Our Parks

We can help install new amenities, improve walkways, add seating and shade covers, lengthen Highline Trail, and construct all of the facilities at Dunsworth Memorial Park (old tractor grounds).

Access Funding

A municipality like the City of Peculiar and its departments like Parks and Rec are not able to apply for many grants that could help with funding projects. A non-profit organization like the Foundation can. We can also raise money through donations. Some of those donations can be used to apply for larger grants that require matching funds.

Keep Parks Free

By applying for grants, and asking the public to donate time and money to create new facilities, the Parks Department won’t need to charge admission fees for the use of these amenities, or ask for more tax dollars to be directed to Parks.

What YOU Want

We ask the public to fund specific projects. This means you get to vote with your dollars, even if you live “outside city limits” and normally would not get a traditional vote in what happens in town.

Teamwork

We invite members of the community to come to us with ideas for improvement projects. Is there something we are missing that you want? Let us know and then help us make it happen! See a problem in a Park you want solved? Tell us and we will help get it solved. Join our team of volunteers and be part of the solution.

Keep Parks Clean

It takes a lot of work to maintain our Parks. With a limited budget for staff, this means that some projects become a lower priority. When invasive plant species move in, or a flood brings a bunch of debris into our parks, volunteers can help bridge the gap by helping cleanup efforts.
